Apple enthusiasts have eagerly awaited an update for the brand’s entry-level iPad, and the refresh is finally on the horizon. Skipping over updates for the past two years, Apple has left the current iPad model with the A14 Bionic chip, a processor over four years old.
Although Apple lowered the price from $449 to $349 earlier this year, speculation now points to a significant upgrade in spring 2025.
A Likely Chip Upgrade and Apple Intelligence
The iPad 11 is anticipated to feature Apple Intelligence capabilities, bringing advanced features such as notification summaries, Image Playground, and an improved Siri experience.
Rumors suggest that the device may house the A18 chip, which is likely chosen over the newer A17 Pro to maintain cost efficiency.
The new iPad could support AI-based features, including Genmoji, integration with ChatGPT, and other iPadOS 18 capabilities, making the iPad 11 more powerful than its predecessors.
Connectivity and Accessory Support
Expectations for the iPad 11 extend beyond the processor. The new device may support enhanced connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 6E or possibly even Wi-Fi 7, along with Bluetooth 5.3, improving both speed and reliability.
For productivity-minded users, Apple is rumored to be developing a new, lower-end Magic Keyboard that may complement the iPad 11, potentially replacing the folio-style keyboard on the current model.
Additionally, support for the Apple Pencil Pro could be in the cards. Although there’s no confirmation, Apple might adjust magnet placements and include a wireless charging coil to accommodate the higher-end Pencil.
Expected Release Date
The iPad 11 could be released in spring 2025, alongside iPhone SE and iPad Air updates. If all goes as planned, Apple’s affordable tablet will finally receive a well-deserved update nearly two-and-a-half years after the iPad 10’s 2022 debut.
