What’s In the Box?
Before we delve into the SpaceBuds’ features, I’ll breeze through what you’ll get when you unbox the earbuds. They come in a premium-looking large box with the earbuds perched like a spaceship. It’s a bit too big, but Oraimo always gives special attention to their packaging.
Inside you’ll find the SpaceBuds inside their case, a type-C charging cable, a user manual, and two pairs of extra ear tips. You can watch my SpaceBuds unboxing YouTube video to see these items.
Futuristic Design Inspired by the Solar Eclipse
The Oraimo SpaceBuds boast a compact design with a plastic casing. While the build material may not be premium, it feels solid enough to endure occasional drops. In fact, after a few accidental drops, mine remained undamaged—no cracks, no dents.
The case features a sliding cover with a metallic finish inspired by the moon’s design specifically an eclipse accented by RGB lighting. The buds themselves feature a nice-looking and shiny rainbow gradient color. This lighting might not add to the functionality, but it sure boosts the aesthetic appeal. You can even customize the color of this light using the Oraimo Sound app.
Comfy With Basic Waterproofing
Good earbuds must be comfortable for extended listening, and the Oraimo SpaceBuds don’t disappoint. They come with extra ear tips, ensuring a secure fit for various ear sizes. Whether you’re walking, running, or working out, these earbuds stay in place, offering excellent comfort without causing fatigue.
Thanks to their IP54 rating, these earbuds can withstand sweat, light rain, and minor splashes. While it’s safe to use them in such conditions, I wouldn’t recommend full submersion in water.
Impressive Battery Life
Battery life is a standout feature of the Oraimo SpaceBuds. With ANC turned off, I managed to squeeze out a solid 12 hours of playback on a single charge. Even with ANC enabled, they still offer about 8 hours, which is remarkable given their size. The charging case, which uses a Type-C port, can replenish the earbuds up to four times, giving you a total of 48 hours before you need to charge the case.
Another great aspect is how infrequent charging becomes once the case is fully juiced up. Over a month of use, I only charged the case once, and that too with moderate daily listening. If battery anxiety is a concern, the SpaceBuds will put your mind at ease.
They Offer Great Bass But I Recommend Playing Around With the Equalizer
Oraimo has done a good job in ensuring the SpaceBuds deliver clear and balanced sound. By default, the audio quality is decent, but it becomes even better when you switch to the Heavy Bass equalizer preset in the Oraimo Sound app. This preset enhances the low-end response, making the earbuds ideal for bass-heavy tracks.
ANC works efficiently, cutting out ambient noise to improve listening immersion. Additionally, the transparency mode is a thoughtful touch, allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings without removing the earbuds.
The unique Smart Chat feature automatically pauses music when you start speaking, resuming playback after 10 seconds of silence. This feature is handy during conversations, as it eliminates the hassle of manually pausing the music.
For gamers, there’s a game mode that reduces audio latency, ensuring a more synchronized experience. If you often switch between devices, the dual-device connection allows seamless pairing with two devices simultaneously.
Call Quality Could Be Better
Regarding call quality, the Oraimo SpaceBuds get the job done, though they aren’t perfect. Like most Bluetooth earbuds in this price range, they struggle to deliver crisp, crystal-clear audio during calls. The microphones pick up your voice well enough, ensuring the person on the other end understands you without constant repetitions.
Receiving calls is also smooth, with no major connectivity issues. So, while the SpaceBuds might not give you studio-grade clarity, they are perfectly fine for everyday conversations.
A Few Tweaks to Personalize the SpaceBuds
The Oraimo Sound app enhances the experience by allowing various customizations. You can adjust touch controls to suit your preferences, modify light effects on the case, and even record personalized voice prompts for functions like Power On or Connected.
Additionally, the app provides real-time battery status for each earbud and the case. It also features a customizable equalizer, allowing users to create personal sound profiles. These thoughtful additions make the app a valuable companion for fine-tuning the earbuds to your liking.
Another standout feature in the Oraimo Sound app is Wide Area Tap, which expands the touch-sensitive area on the earbuds. This means you don’t have to tap precisely on a small spot—anywhere around the earbud’s surface will register your touch. It makes controlling music, calls, and other functions more intuitive, especially when you’re on the move.
Dual Device Connection will let you pair your SpaceBuds with an extra device. For example, you can stay connected on both your phone and computer. You can then receive calls while listening to media on your computer without disconnecting your earphones.
Should You Buy the Oraimo SpaceBuds?
The Oraimo SpaceBuds deliver an outstanding mix of features, sound quality, and battery life at a budget-friendly price. Whether you’re looking for something to use during workouts, calls, or gaming, these earbuds are versatile enough to fit the bill.
At KES 4,900 (approximately USD 38), the Oraimo SpaceBuds offer excellent value for money. They pack features often found in higher-end models, such as ANC, transparency mode, and app-driven customization.
If you’re in the market for earbuds that won’t break the bank while offering excellent value, the Oraimo SpaceBuds are an easy recommendation.
