As Samsung Electronics celebrates its 55th anniversary, CEO Han Jong-hee has outlined an ambitious vision for its future, emphasizing the need for strengthened technology leadership and superior product quality.
In a ceremony held at Samsung’s headquarters in Suwon, South Korea, Han highlighted the growing challenges in the tech sector and stressed Samsung’s responsibility to maintain its competitive edge.
“Securing technology and quality for our customers is the foundation of our competitiveness and the only way we can lead the paradigm shift,” Han stated. His call for “desperate efforts” underscores Samsung’s rising competitive pressure, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor manufacturing.
Adapting to the AI Revolution
The CEO highlighted AI as a critical area driving the company’s strategy over the next decade. Describing the era of “AI democratization,” Han urged employees to prepare for a technological landscape where AI becomes integral to daily life and industry. This shift, he noted, will require Samsung to explore new growth areas beyond its current product lines.
The company has faced challenges in the AI chip market, particularly in its competition with SK hynix, which supplies high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips to Nvidia. In response, Samsung is ramping up its AI investments and reevaluating its approach to product development, signaling its intent to compete vigorously in this critical field.
Exploring New Growth Opportunities
Alongside advancements in AI, Han mentioned the importance of identifying fresh growth engines. This call may reflect Samsung’s recent product initiatives, such as the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition introduction, designed to meet evolving consumer preferences for sleeker, more versatile devices.
As other tech leaders like AMD, AWS, Intel, and Nvidia look to different suppliers for AI chip components, Samsung’s strategic focus on quality and innovation is essential to maintaining its industry leadership.
